i jaust have this question,i know ice shifting could be really bad,but is there a way to avoid this?like keeping houseboat in a bay or sonething?

The ice on the river where I live can be devastating. Not just during the winter but during breakup. A massive chunk of ice slamming into a pontoon could do some awful damage. I've had property damage from ice. Lake might be different but just think of Simcoe when the ice decides to push up shore

hundreds of houseboats on Great Slave Lake and they been at it for decades.

Yes I believe there's a TV show that is still on air about them living in Great Slave Lake. I think its called "Ice Lake Rebels"

I believe people even put bubblers in the their boathouses so there boats can stay in all winter.

few fella down at the Scarborough Bluffs use bubblers and barriers, been there for some time

i can get a nice houseboat for a great price,id like to try to live in it for a year,maybe more...it would be great if i could leave it in the water over the winter

yeah the bubblers keep the ice from forming and barriers would be good - big bumpers of some kind.

keep in mind though.....the period while the ice forms and while it is starting to melt will prove to be a tough time to move around anywhere safely - will need to have a canoe around as well as a snow machine once the ice comes in
