Was out laker fishing yesterday and trying to get one in but to no avail. 1 came unbuttoned 10ft bellow the boat and another 2 swam away with my vibratos.. Marked a fish in 105 and had my 5 inch swim bait on and dropped it down. Didnt take long for a chase to ensue and at around the 30 mark it finally hit. Made a good long run and then came up pretty quickly. Cant believe how aggressive this fish was even with a stomach full of shiners.

I haven't caught a lot of fish on Simcoe, but that doesn't sound like a WF to me either. Way to go.

Yup.. I've had the same thing in winter and had whities nail it just below the ice after coming from 48 feet chasing.

I've also been out at night, fishing ling,(on bottom as everyone does). Marked something half way up in 50 f.o.w., reeled up to it... fish on!....up into my shack, a ling!

Just another example - we're probably all guilty of thinking that certain species act only certain ways. No such thing as rules in fishing.

Nice whitefish VBB !!

Agreed. A fish will do what a fish wants to do.

On Simcoe white fish may mostly be caught productively on bottom but they chase bait all the time off bottom. I have caught them chasing just like a laker many many times but just no as often as fishing bottom.

Quite common to catch a species in an unexpected way showing us the we should experiment more when our regular techniques are just not doing the job. I have hit Bull Heads on meps spinner, crappy throwing streamers, I know someone would caught a Steelhead on a flipping jig and many other strange occurrences.

I've caught plenty of whites on a chase just not with a big swimbait lol. When I was a teenager I used to catch crawfish and fish for anything that would eat them which was usually bass and the odd pike. 1 day I caught close to a dozen huge carp which I knew were always there but never hit the crawfish. I was fishing every day after school and any time off for years after and never caught another carp on a crawfish again.Never know.

Yep, I've always said that fish don't read the same magazines as us. I've had the same happen with whities on occasion. A couple other oddballs I've caught are a lake trout on a flipping jig and a rainbow on a buzzbait.
