Lyman lure replacements

This is my second year downrigging on georgian bay and my dad had gave me a few old wooden lyman lures that I've done really well with but after losing a couple break offs i don't have much of a selection left. Looking online people are asking crazy prices for them and i don't want to spend 40 dollars a lure so my question is what other brand plugs work well and where can i find them? I've tried a couple but the old lyman always seems to catch more..
Hope the fishing has been good for everyone i was still catching some silver ones on bottom last week even got a nice rainbow over 10 pounds.

Best ever lure co makes some that I have had success with, carrot top and heavens gate. Meegs also makes some plugs but I haven't tried them yet, they have some neat eyes on them. The new lymans I keep hearing nothing but bad about them. I tried the goby colour and it seemed to work great for me, didnt have a scratch and the hooks held up. I was looking into this last night and theres a company called Tomic lures that make plugs in 7 sizes and has about 800+ colours, I am going to be ordering a wack of those soon.

I think some of those break offs have ended up on my shore - so I should say thanks Something about the currents in my little bay on the big bay sends me a few lymans every few years. I would guess I've had 10 sent my way since I started noticing them. Most of the time they are pristine; other times they just need new hooks.

I tried the best lure co. Plug as well but just didn't seem to have as much action but did manage a couple fish. I will have to find some of the meegs plugs and give them a try does anyone know where i could find them? I live in barrie but fish out of collingwood almost every weekend. I looked online but can't find much on them

Rick and John down at the happy hooka sell the meegs plugs in Collingwood. Wish mother nature was throwing some layman's up on my yard, if you ever sell your house be sure to include that in the listing steelhead!

I own a decent amount of Lyman’s. I bought a few of the best lure plugs to try. I gave them a run side by side with Lyman’s this year. I have one that is a knock off stairway that has a bunch of Lake Ontario kings on it. My opinion on the best lures? From the 3 that I’ve run they all seem to run pretty true to a lyman action. I did have to slightly tweak one to get it to run true, but if you’ve run Lyman’s you’ll know that they need the same treatment sometimes. The one best lure has probably somewhere around 12-15 mature kings of 15-25lbs on it. The hooks needed replacement last trip out, and the paint is scuffed but the plug is intact and holding up very well. I expect it will continue to catch fish at about the same rate as long as I don’t lose it. I have no interest in best lure co, but I don’t see why anyone would pay $40 for aLyman when these lures are available.

Does anyone use the Luhr Jensen J plugs anymore? Saw some at the local tackle shop recently, might be worth a try.

I don’t use them because I guess we’ve always just used Lymans for the most part up here. The American guys use Jplugs at the pier heads all the time. I can’t see how they wouldn’t work!

Lyman. I hear the rave but must admit that I've pretty much stopped using them a few years ago. Maybe once or twice a salmon season, "....just for old times sake!" Last year I gathered 20 and sold them. I keep about a dozen that were favourites. The boat only carries 2 or 3 in a "spare" tackle box.

Don't take it here that this is a "slam" against the classic Lyman; I'd be the first to admit that they've caught a lot of fish (even my PB rainbow) over the years -- especially this time of year -- and you still see many a Lyman being lowered from boats. Rather, you go with lures you have confidence in at the time. I seem to be the outsider when it comes to this bait today. As fickle as fashion is, there may be a time when I wished I'd not sold any(?). ("I might be fishing and wearing my new "bell-bottom pants though!")

I've not invested in any of the other "knock-off" lures, so I can't comment on any here.

Knock off thats seen quite a few fish! Lymans aren’t the be all and end all for fall salmon lures, but when they work, they work!!

The Meegs plug has been my go to this week. 10 salmon boated this weekend on his Dalmatian plug, all matures. He uses a lot of clearcoat, very durable and minimal scratches. He also makes a Bullfrog colour scheme that has been good in recent weeks. I know Happi Hookah and Bait Bucket carry them. He also makes the smaller sizes which are very cool looking with big eyes. The small Bullfrog was good for me all August in high sun or early evening. Find them, you won’t be disappointed. Thinking of selling my Lyman’s and just running the Meegs plugs from now on.

Tried out best lure co. Plugs this weekend alongside the old lyman and did fairly well. Saturday night landed 2 rainbow and 2 salmon. Still looking for a 20 pounder though hopefully the winds aren't too bad and i can get out again this weekend. Hope everyone is doing well out there.
