I have an old 83 16ft lund i got last year and I put a floor and casting deck on it. Trolling motor and battery up front and a bimini on top. The 25hp Honda tiller gets me, my dog and the better half up to 22mph in a jiffy. We had a limit of whitefish and filled 120 marine cooler with water and she slowed down to 19mph. My old 40hp johnson would push my 14ft Grumman 31mph but boat was only registered for 30 I think. Very happy with the 25.

I had a 14' tin boat with a 25hp Mariner 2 stroke. Repowered with a 30hp EFI Mercury. Gained a couple of mph, increased my fuel economy, and I could actually hold a conversation with my fishing partner in the bow. Nicest part was that when I caught 2footitis, the 30 was plenty of motor for my new 16' boat...

Also keep in mind weight of motor.....for instance a 25hp merc 2 stroke is 95 lbs and a 25 Merc 4 stroke is 30 lbs heavier at 126 lbs....I am in that dilemma my self right now and will go with the 30 lbs less 2 stroke Merc.....I don't need extra weight at the transom to make the boat sit lower and more susceptible to waves from behind.

The other reason for the 2 stroke is lifting it on and off by yourself to the height of the transom.......I can do 95 lbs by myself......add 30 lbs and I need help that usually isn't there.....at 70 getting to hard to lift 130 lbs three feet high.

Max our the HP on the 4 stroke. 30 hp.

The added weight will not really make a big difference. If you want to see what the free board will be like take your current set up and add 35lbs to the rear. I bet it not more than a 1/4” lower in the water if that.

No one ever complain of to much power and getting on plane to fast but half the boaters out there complain they want more power.

You will also find with the higher horse power you will use less fuel. My old 16.5 with a 50 EFI 4 stroke used double the fuel as my 115 on my 17.2.

20hp isn’t so bad ... only 103 pounds .

Called around dam pricey little motors .

They also come with Electirc start and manual start if you want the electric start option . Which means you would also need battery on board .

Defiantly leaning towards the manual start ....
