According to the article, the fishing tackle was seized and they have been charged and are to appear in court. (If they show up)
In my opinion with blatant poaching like this, they should have been jailed at least overnight and the vehicle seized as well as the tackle. How they get back to Quebec the next day is their problem. If they don't show up for the court date the vehicle is then forfeited to the Crown to be sold.
Once again, in my opinion, the courts are far too lenient for not only this type of thing, but many other crimes as well.
Good job I'm not part of the judiciary, I would be known as the 'hanging judge"!
Severe penalties tend to make people think twice about breaking the law.

They need to close the entire section of river from the harbour all the way up well into the spawning water at this time of year. Those fish run a gauntlet, it's bad enough with the water conditions, but then you'll have assholes like this making it even harder.

Looks like all females. Slaughtered for their eggs I'm sure.
Hanging judge sounds about right.
Those guys aren't egg hunters, they're eating them. I've seen guys with Quebec license plates down at PH carting away boots with a dolly, males/females makes no difference... It's insane.
