Below is an email I sent to my local council member and his reply after I noticed the new sign blocking lake access to vehicles at Glenwoods. Just a heads up for anyone planing on getting their hut out or driving out to fishing area. What do you think about the reason for this action?
<<Good morning Dave, thanks for reaching out to me regarding this last night. My reply at 11pm had originally been intended as a forward but I'm happy to explain the situation this morning.
For quite some time both Mayor Quirk and I have been getting contacted by people in the surrounding area expressing their concern about this dead-end portion of Glenwoods and the necessity for something to be done has been increasing. The points you have brought up are completely valid and we had to consider them before moving ahead with this, but the rationale for placing this sign (and likely boulders/barricade) is for safety reasons.
This portion of the road has historically been a trouble spot for car accidents year round. Although I cannot grasp why drivers keep making this mistake cars are actually driven right off the end without realizing the road terminates at the lake, and not just in the winter. This issue is accentuated in the winter by people foolishly attempting to drive out there with vehicles not appropriate for it OR during conditions where it's not safe, and we are attempting to mitigate this. Just to put it into perspective, if memory serves me right earlier this year there where 3 (might have been 4) vehicles which needed to be pulled out at this location on the same day. This becomes incredibly dangerous if a number of people are on the ice surrounding this entry point and someone gets stuck in the only place accessible to get off the ice, and this is quickly becoming more and more likely. I agree with your comment that someone doing something like this should have their license revoked, sadly though that kind of action can only take place after they've crashed or put others in an unsafe condition. We're minimizing that risk for everyone, and I agree this is a response that's being taken where the consistent actions of a careless few are ruing the fun for the rest of us.
The intention is NOT to block snowmobiles from accessing the lake, and I will fight for that.

Hi here we go again, just noticed a large ( maybe 4 foot by 4 foot ) end of road sign erected in middle of road off Lake Drive South and end of Glenwoods. This effectively prevents vehicles from getting on ice in winter. No more parking on ice for fishermen, kite skiers, skaters, snowmobilers, and others. Not sure what the reason is, perhaps you can investigate for me.
What I do know if this route is closed the parking in the area will cause a nightmare for anyone driving on Glenwoods and other area streets.
If safety is a concern I suggest anyone driving into the lake during the spring, summer and fall should have his/her license revoked as they are not fit to drive. If parking on ice in winter is a concern then when is the ramp at Rayners road , the Young harbour and Adeline park being closed for the winter?

"The few" ruining it for us again! You can't blame the township for their actions. Eventually we'll all be virtual fishing to get our fix. "The few" keep shooting us in the foot! I had one of "the few" fishing beside me last week. He seemed like a nice person who lived locally and fished the river a lot. He smoked and threw his butts on the ground or in the water. 😡Mine go in my waders to be thrown into my timmies cup when I get back to the car and thrown in the garbage at timmies when I grab one for the ride home. Anyhoo, I didn't say anything to him until he threw his empty pack on the ground. Then I felt I needed to say something. I could have ranted on forever but I just said don't be surprised if you show up one day and theres a sign saying no fishing or parking. It will be there because of people like you who litter. He picked it up and I hope he has enough guilt left in him to never do it again. Fingers crossed.
