The Jaw jacker

anyone try the Jaw Jacker rig? Looks pretty sweet compared to your normal tip up. The auto-jig function looks nice too.

Only flaw is if the trigger gets iced up, it doesn’t detect the bite an you loose the fish, I greased the joints an it seamed to help

Good tip, i was thinking of picking one up for black friday. I was thinking of setting it up in one of the extra holes inside our ice condo to not let it ice up.

I also make use of the Jaw Jacker. Mine isn't the auto jigger model, though. Isaac is right you have to keep an eye on ice formation on the trigger. Overall I like the rig. I have also built a few rigs that work in a similar fashion. Having a stiff ice rod is the key.

I wonder if you could spray some of that anti ice spray you put on the the inside of your snowblower or de-icing spray for locks onto the trigger every so often so it doesn't freeze?

I have one and it works great, use it all the time. Don’t have the jigging base, usually use it with a live minnow/split shot setup. Never had any issues with the trigger freezing up, but you have to make sure the hole doesn’t freeze over. Have caught many different species with it, the trigger is so light that I have even caught smelt with it. Just make sure you keep it fairly close so that you can get to the rod in a reasonable about of time or you will lose the fish. I usually have it set up inside the flip hut with me within arms reach or if I’m not using a hut I’ll keep it within 30’. Put some flagging tape or something on the end of the rod so you can see when it goes off easier. If it’s in the hut you will hear it go off. Great for catch and release, selective harvest, or when fishing in areas with slot sizes in place; you never have a fish swallow the hook like on a standard tip up.
