Does anyone have experience with Trout lake as an alternative to Nipissing in the Winter. I’d be most concerned about December when Nipissing is closed whether it would be worth it to try drilling some holes in first ice but if it works out maybe it would keep me away from the friends during the weekends too. So essentially my question is, is Trout lake a worthwhile alternative to Nipissing or is it food when Nipissing is closed in comparison to other nearby lakes?

Trout lake is not somewhere you rush to get out onto. I've usually been ice fishing for up to a month before Trout lake even gets a speck of ice on it. Produces huge walleye (and huge everything else) but is a very challenging fishery if you don't know it well.
