Anyone have any insight on the ministry possibly changing the date for permanent hut removal or who we could contact directly? It seems to me that us having to take them off March 1st is a joke. I have had my place ever since ice fishing opened and every year I keep saying wtf. I measured 20 inches Sunday and was pulling off my hut. It would be nice if they could extend it to March 15th or something like other zones. Every year I go up to the lake and ice fish during March break and most years ice fishing to the end of March. Ice on Sturgeon is usually not out until mid April which is similar I assume to many lakes in zone 17. Anyways, sorry for the rant but would like to see it moved to March 15th. Any insight?

Quite unlikely especially given the fluctuation in temperatures we are seeing these days and that we live in the south where it's more unpredictable. They would rather see them off while the ice is still relatively safe rather than waiting and putting people at risk. There are still some that leave them out past the date, the ice breaks up and they either become floaters or sinkers and no one wants that.

Its not the ice on the lake, its shoreline ice. The shoreline near me, which is what the public use to access the lake, is non-existent. Theres tons of streams flowing into lakes right now eating away shorelines. You can't get an ATV up some access points right now, imagine trying to pull the hut? March 1st makes sense.
Theres lots of sections of open water on Kawartha too, parts that were frozen during winter.
