I've been back for a little over a week now and haven't been doing any fishing until today because of the high winds (25-40mph). Not something that I consider an enjoyable fishing trip. I did manage to get out to Lake Winterset today with my daughter. It was her very first time in freshwater so I got 2 dozen wild shiners for her and I stuck with the artificial baits. I got skunked, but she managed 5 very nice largemouth. I didn't mind because it was her trip this time, not mine. I think we have a convert from salt water fishing!!

I made one last trip back to Lake Winterset yesterday. Spent 5 hours on the water and caught 11 small males who were probably building or sitting on/near nests. I probed tons of deeper water but just couldn't locate the ladies. Still, a very relaxing day in the fresh air with partly sunny skies and 74deg. Time to get back to reality....back on the road home Thursday morning.

Nice report! Man, what I would give to be able to get even small bass right now, never mind fish that are getting ready to spawn. Oh well, several more months and we’ll all be back at it
