Hi All,

Been swayed a few different ways when looking into an ice fishing snowmobile. Skidoo scandik, Yamaha viking etc. Wanted to get some reliable opinions from actual users. Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Will be towing a portable flip over hut.

Thanks

Skidoo Skandic or Tundra work fine, probably tow 3-4 huts at once, real work horses.

I run a skidoo Grandtouring 550fan. Does a good job.

I have another skidoo tundra 300 coming. Don’t know anything more about it but one will be for sale shortly.

Go to the 'lake simcoe' section up above. There's a recent "what's the best ice fishing snowmobile" topic there that is what you're after

I have a 2007 polaris trail touring 550 fan cooled , long track 2 seater. Fan is the way to go for fishing, won't overheat on bare ice conditions and you can always add a scratcher kit to keep your sliders from melting. Also a bit lighter for loading in the back of a truck like I do and the electronic reverse has never failed and also saves weight. When you don't have a passenger your minnow bucket fits nice in a milk crate on the second seat, or your fish finder you don't want getting broken in your sleigh with your other gear bouncing around. Paid $3100 for a 2007 in 2014 and it's the best money I ever spent on ice fishing gear, especially considering I just paid $1500 for a new otter flip over hut. It has more power and speed than you will ever need for fishing, and would still be a decent trail riding machine if you wanted to, 110-120km top speed. I prefer not to beat it up on the trails though as I do a lot of solo fishing and reliablity is my priority. I've had it into some back lakes and very deep snow and slush hauling a sleigh, but you do need to break a trail and loop back around and park on your tracks in the super heavy slush, and turns are wide in those conditions. This in my opinion is a perfect all around sled for what I do, but if you're into tight spots and back lakes you might want a smaller tundra or something narrower with a paddle track, and a scandic or something with a gearbox and low/high gear if you are hauling heavy permanent huts around regularly.

I use this if I’m going on back lakes to break trail great machine in the bush goes anywhere. I looked at the bear cat heard good things . The wt has a low gearto getyou moving. Hope this helps

Dad's got an expedition 2013 I think. It's a monster has dragged a couple moose out of cutovers in deep snow fluffy snow. Friend also had a bearcat that was a beast in deep slush. Good luck with whatever you go with

2014 Bearcat 570xt I have pulled a flip over hut and a second passenger on Lake Temagami from the Hub to town through 12 inches of slush with out skipping a beat. 20 inch wide track saving my @ss. Great utility sled and gets you where you need to go. Hi Low range is nice for climbing hills and pulling things.

1998 Arctic Cat 340. As simple as it gets. Owned since brand new. What I used for years for ice fishing. The now DAD in me says start with what you can afford and go from there.

Both fan cooled machines.

ice fishing sled can mean a lot of things. if you`re trailering right to larger, busier lakes and riding out on the ice, any half-decent 440-570 fan cooled sled with a 136 inch or longer skid will do fine.

My mountain sled treats me very well for my backlake adventures in the north, but she sure doesn`t like bare ice or low snow. My buddies Enticer II 410 cc is an awesome ice fishing machine, but we basically had to carry it by hand into the speck lake we were on the other day, as the old fanners just don't have the guts to get up steep hills in deep snow.
