Well here it is for me, 5 more sleeps. Some of you lucky sob’s have already been. This trip has put a smile on my mug since July when it was +30 c. I greatly enjoy reading other members excitement and results. Now I try and tell myself I’m not superstitious but I think that ship has sailed. One ritual complete is preparing 2 rods for immediate action upon arrival. Lucky socks are packed. An absolute must is a haircut. (Tomorrow after work) The last ritual I’d love to forget about is the lack of sleep I get the night before I leave. Please tell me I’m not the only crazy person on here.

Jeez man your 5 sleeps away, you make it sound like you are leaving in the morning.......going to be a long week for someone
You just made it feel like 6 sleeps now.
Ok... one crazy person to another. You must have one or two superstition concerning your 27 years of going.
None that I can think of, we like to meet in Callander Bay for lunch and a few beers before we head in but thats about it. No lucky gitch or anything like that though

Look online for that new thing I think I need. Start counting the minutes when we're about 5 days out. Watch the long range forecast like a freak. Periodically take out my ice tackle and look at it (don't prep or sort it.. just look). Final check is pack like a madman (always too much stuff) and leave the morning of on little to no sleep. My most memorable trip I drove through and fished in a snow storm.. so I always hope for and look forward to that for some reason.. and at no other time. Just the bungalow trip. My last stop is always to get our supply of pinheads. Some years I have to go out of the way and track them down. But I have to get'em.
One year we didn't get to go. I had it so bad I set up a balanced rod on a holder on top of the bar in the basement.. complete with hanging jig. It just sat there like some brutal, necessary reminder. Like some sort of messed up fishermans christmas tree. Anyone else ever do that?

Starts about a week out with a look into the tackle box that I organized 2 months ago and then every week since. One rod set with line and a snap swivel so I can make my mind up about a lure once I'm on the ice. My other rod will be all set ready to go and laying on top of everything in my tote so I can get it in the water immediately. One last breeze through the Ontario Out of Doors ice fishing edition before inevitably getting way too little sleep the night before we hit the highway. Lucky hat will be on the dashboard of the truck for the ride up. No putting it on until we load into the sled to get to the huts.
