Hello, I am a long time reader first time poster. I would like to first off thank this community for all the valuable knowledge that is shared here. Me and my crew are heading up to Callander for the annual Walter hunt. Over the years we stayed with a few different outfitters, from Robs to South Shore to now Nanmark maybe the 3rd year with him. We have it pretty good as the one guys family has a cottage right across the road from Nanmark. We walk to the end of the driveway and get picked up. For all the people asking who to stay with, they're all pretty good, never been to a hut and said "omg no" but I am not very picky when it comes to a bench that I sit on when I fish. Honestly we are terrible at fishing, I am probably the most focused one but still our numbers never reach what some people are reporting. Mostly there for the laughs with old friends, beer and the odd fish. Last year I bought a FL-18 and that upset the whole crew, my fish numbers tripled and they couldn't keep up. We have been up there with temps in the -20's and this year we are luckily looking at highs of 0 which is nice. 2 more sleeps for me or as we all know that really means only 1.5 cause we all don't get a good one the night before. Anyways I hope to catch a keeper this year as we have yet to do that, they're always just under slot, the one time we almost had a pike but we we lost her at the hole. Anyways i'll be up there in the hut from dawn till dusk, come by for a cold one or a couple, always happy to meet new people and share techniques.

Welcome aboard Weedy, lots of good people with good information on here. Nothing wrong with getting together with old friends for a couple of laughs, cold beers and a few fish thrown in, it's what keeps me going back up every year. Good luck to you and your crew up there, make sure you give us a report on how you did and include the picture of the keeper

Definitely drill some holes up there ..Hopefully the hut has fresh holes for you, sometimes it can make a difference.. Keep that rod in your hand and if weather permits, no gloves..be ready to set the hook at all times, become one with your rod.... Myself , I would be armed with White, orange and purple jigs ,white being my favorite.I like to bounce the jig right on the bottom, then raise it to 1or 2ft ,off bottom, let it sink and then get ready.... Cheers and good luck Dave..

Welcome aboard Weedy, 2 more sleeps for me as well. Actually 1, I rarely sleep the night before. I too am on the hunt for the elusive “ keeper” painfully, it’s been awhile. Good luck on your trip. Cheers Kerry.

Thanks for the tips and kind words guys. Get me outta this friggin office and let me taste that northern air, those cold beers and let me laugh about something stupid until my face hurts. I will do my best with a report once the hangover recedes like your hairlines.

We were at Nanmark the 16-19th, tough shooting this weekend. We finished with about 40ish walleyes, all under slot, and another dozen cisco. Weather sure made for tough fishing, hopefully it is better for guys going up soon. Heard similar reporting for the past weekend from other groups as well.

We had about the opposite of that. about 10 wallleye and 30 or so cisco. The cisco were on the sonar all day every day, lots of them.

Just got back from out annual trip up to Callander bay. Again no keeper fish but I did see one of Nanmarks cabin did get a keeper. No idea what they did with it. This year we had a total of 20 fish. One jumbo perch, a one year old baby pike, one Cisco, 17 Wally's all under slot 16.5 - 17.5". I would say they look to have a little more girth to them this year. I fished hard over the two days we fished. Putting in 730-530 on Friday and 730-730 on Saturday. Marked alot of fish both days but most just took a look no matter what I used. Maybe they were making a list of all the different jigs I was trying. If that's the case all you guys going up are dinked, sorry. I will say that the service was absolutely wonderful from Ryan at Nanmark. Couldn't ask for more out of a guy but we always seem to find another request that he doesn't seem to mind handling for us.
I can't wait to get up there again. My face hurts from all the laughing we did. And as always when I leave there I remember that that part of Ontario is a gem and we must all do our part to keep it that way.
