There’s quite a few variables when it comes to hole shot problems, as well as quite a few different answers to them. My boat was set up the way I wanted it to be, with about the best top end speed I could get out of my 140, and a great hole shot for most times when it’s just me and my son and wife with no livewell full. But there were times when I had a full livewell and a lot of extra weight onboard, and the hole shot would suffer. I didn’t want to downsize my pitch, as this would’ve made the rpms too high with the lighter weight load ( which is most of the time I’m out), so I went with a hydrofoil. I got mine custom made by a guy from Louisiana. His name is Chris Bailey, if you google him you’ll get his contact info if your interested. He makes foils that are true works of art, in either aluminum or stainless, painted to match your motor or unpainted, with all the mounting hardware and custom lettering on each foil. For mine, stainless and painted to match with lettering and shipping it was about $250 or so, not cheap but it works amazing to help pop the boat out of the water, as well as keep it on plane at slower speeds, which is helpful when cruising at slow speeds without plowing and making a huge wake. And it doesn’t hurt the top end, as it’s completely out of the water when your trimmed up all the way and going faster.
