I was up on the weekend. 11" of ice.... first few inches were soft... access on the lake is getting limited... easy walk out pulling gear... fishing was slow only got 1 @ 3 lbs... the lake was talking on Sunday with the top layer of ice "spidering"... OPP stopped by asking for license's and wanted to give a fine for drinking beer in the portable hut... he let us off... too many grey areas in the law regarding "temporary residence" when it comes to portable huts... I hope to get out on Joe once more but may have to resort to a smaller lake... stay safe folks

I was out yesterday, was OK walking out, few inches of ice most areas - however there were definitely some very thin spots (I'm guessing where huts were).
I am not experienced enough to give an opinion on whether it's safe for ATV, but based on my experience running into these thin spots I personally would avoid it.

I brought my son there @ the cove public marina on this Wednesday, saw no one on the ice and was a bit scared by the loosen shoreline and pressure cracks on the lake, so I chose not to risk it. May be it will get better after the -double digit temp in the coming couple days.
I'm not familiar with the area, I would appreciate if anyone can let me know if this is the usual access point for Lake Joe, should I go somewhere else instead. Wanted to bring my boy to a bit safer area and hopefully catch some joys of trout or whities.
