Summertime backcountry, Looking for a new place

Hey,

I got the go ahead from the mrs to plan this years camping trip. This one is just going to be the two of us, so I we can go pretty much anywhere within 5 hours from the gta. For about the past 15 years we've done Algonquin backcountry and we love it, but I was looking to change it up this year. My thoughts, I've done trout for 15 years and it's time to switch it up. Pretty much what I'm looking for is walleye and backcountry camping. I was considering the French, but what I keep on reading is that yatchs get in the way? If anyone has any other suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

You should fine the "lower French River" (on the Georgian bay side Hwy 69) relatively free of boat traffic. There are only a few cottages and tons of camping and water to explore.

Thanks. Sounds good. I'll look into it again. I'm just so used to the algonquin style backcountry where there's no motorized boats.

Based on my personal experience, the French was a good suggestion. If you start from French River provincial park (water access only) and have the proper passes you can take your time and camp on marked islands (some with fire pits etc.) throughout the lower section. i believe they are all first come first serve with no reservations accepted. it is beautiful, quiet, not overly demanding paddling and good fishing and swimming.My wife really enjoyed our trip through there especially as the trees were turning... one note - we went in early fall so that may have affected the numbers of other paddlers (very few) and certainly the lack of bugs - check their website for the precise info.. it is mapped etc.

I think the lower French is more of a bass place unless you want to go over to the outlets. Are you paddling a canoe or do you have a motorboat?

We have done many trips out on the bay---mostly paddling with a little bit of fishing

Ya, the French is looking like the lead prospect by far. Were paddlers. I have a 17' Langford canoe. Not afraid of long portages. We were thinking end of august. Figure the major crowds should be through by then.

Lady Evelyn PP has a very scenic canoe route. Never done it but have seen lots that are. only been on that water system by boat not canoe. Closer to 6 hr drive but the walleye fishing is just as good as a fly in imo.

It would be quite a long day's paddle from Hartley Bay to the Main Outlet.

Halfway Provincial Park off Hwy 144 has portage and walleye fishing.
