Beauty day in Haliburton County, stones throw from Algonquin Park.
Broke my auger on the second hole at 7am..... but who could be mad the conditions were incredible. Marked some lazy fish, managed to get a couple around the 11am feeding time. Those Whitefish are tricky tricky tricky... but I fooled one with a small bad boyz, feathering the bottom, it feels like it gets caught on a rock, that’s a Whitefish. They were piled up on bottom but hard to detect the bites. Couple lakers came through kept me busy. So did the little man, fisherman in training.

I managed one laker and one Whitefish. A buddy managed a nice 4lber laker but I had to leave at lunch to move a couch, so called it early. Great memories made today.

I lost 3 that were definitely Whitefish, and another laker in the hole..... I think it’s time for some sharper hooks lol And a new auger....

I have no idea... hoping someone will chime in? Seems awfully cold? One was still alive. Fish caught on a mid lake ridge, 45fow on a shoal. Belly was packed!

Great report.....get them hooked when they are young.

Your son will remember the day more than what you caught that day when he gets older, great memories

Nice to see your kids enjoying the outdoors aswell they grow fast so take advantage of good weather. If auger not to old see what the place you bought would do anything to help you out replace or discount goodluck .Frank

These are caddis larvae which encase themselves in gravel or wood matter for protection.

Priceless pix with the kid--memories for sure!

How big is that caddis? Is the rest of the stuff just bits of wood lying on the deck?

These caddisfly larvae were about inch and a quarter long.... if you google Caddisfly Larvae, you will see that they construct these “cases” which resemble tubes, out of debris and materials they find on the bottom. They hibernate in them over winter. an artist filled an Aquarium with gold and jewelry and had the Caddis larvae build the tubes out it... really cool. The Whitefish see the tubes and know that they contain the larvae. I bet that whitefish was in the shallows feeding.... possible the nearby stream/creek.

At first I though they were old reed stalks with grubs in them... but the larvae actually built the tubes.... stomach couldn’t possibly have fit more lol
