Do salmon enter rivers during the spring or is it just a fall thing?

Also could someone explain Nottawasaga regs to me, everything I've read has seemed unclear.

I'm new to salmon fishing but really want to get into it so any information and tips help. thanks lots

Salmon run the rivers in the fall only.

Actually I have hooked the odd salmon in the river in the spring. As for the regs, “up stream from Angus is closed, down stream to the mouth is open”.

Sounds good, is Nottawasaga usually open right now or does it actually freeze over, I might try for rainbows someday soon if it's open

I believe it's open up to the the Nicholson Dam:

"Nottawasaga River - Essa Township, waters lying within Lot 1, Concession 5, from Highway 89 above Nicholson Dam downstream to near the confluence of the Boyne River

Fish sanctuary - no fishing from January 1 to Friday before second Saturday in May and October 1 to December 31
Nottawasaga River - from the Boyne River downstream (north) to the Pine River

Rainbow Trout - S-0 and C-0"

No disrespect Tailfin, but you are wrong. The Boyne is 200yds downstream from Nicholston Dam...the Pine is in Angus. From hwy 90 up stream to the Boyne is catch and release only and is open all yr

So from the highway 90 bridge in Angus to Georgian bay is open all year for rainbows. Got it.

Is there open water in that stretch right now? this quarantine situation is driving me mad I need to fish.

When do the levels and visibility usually clear up enough? or is it different every year

The Notty is quite a unique river system ,some times after a heavy rain when you expect high and dirty it some times doesn't happen for a couple days later , very high ends of feeders are stone and gravel , as flows bay bound passes through sand and clay banks with the potential of causing water discoloration ..Don't be discoraged by off colored water , the fish are there and murky water can produce some dynamite days ..

Just my take ..

The lower part often does not clear until it's too late. i.e warmed up too much for bows
