You are spouting number which you are clearly clueless about.
Try to concentrate really really hard and you might get this.
We have flu vaccines, we also have a lot of immunity in the population due to previous infections
from the same strain, this prevents the flu from running rampant.
The flu infects roughly 8% of the population during the flu season which is about 4-5 month long
Hospitalization rate is about 0.4%, mortality rate is 0.1%
Canada has a population of 37.6M people, on an average year 3Mil will be infected with flu, 12000 will need
hospitalization, 3500 will die.
We have no vaccine for COVID19, we have no natural immunity in the population due to previous infections.
Without the drastic measures in place today, it would infect 80% of the population within 3 month.
Based on available canadian statistics from
https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/serv...d-19-cases.htmlIt has a hospitalization rate of 10% (thats 25 times higher than flu)
Mortality rate is 3% (30 times higher than flu)
So if nothing is done to stop/slow down the spread, in the span of 3 month 30Mil will be infected.
3Mil will need hospitalization, 900K will die.
This is in that magical scenario where we have unlimited hospital beds and healthcare workers.
Which of course we dont.
Based on
https://www.cihi.ca/en/covid-19-resources there's about 125000 hospital beds in Canada.
They dont just sit there collecting dust, the "vacancy" rate is pretty low, we didnt build more hospitals
than we need on an ongoing basis, go figure.
But lets say we somehow manage to scrape together 100K hospital beds, by kicking out existing non critical
patients and converting other spaces into makeshift hospitals and equipping them properly.
And then pulling additional doctors and nurses out of thin air to man them all.
3 month is 13 weeks, average COVID19 hospitalization duration is 1 week, at 100K beds we can care for
1.3Mil out of the 3Mil patients. That leaves 1.7Mil out in the cold, not able to get hospital care.
People who need hospitalization and are not able to get it have a bad habit of dying at a much higher rate.
If you are still confused, to recap, if COVID19 is treated exactly the same way as the flu, it will kill
around 1Mil Canadians, i think thats a bit more than the 8000 you keep mentioning
