I took my “little” nephew steelheading last week. I haven’t fished with him for a few years so it was nice to reconnect outdoors.

We started at 9:30 and started hooking fish after half an hour of fishing. I strictly fish with lures now as I can’t find the time to tie spawn or I don’t have it on hand when I do. Best lures were 00 Len Thompson and lil Cleos.

We hooked eleven steelhead and the last fish was the biggest steelhead I’ve ever seen. We didn’t get a weight but it measured 34.25 inches long and it was a male.

Nice shootin, but I gotta ask, is that fish pooping a pinkie?

Nope...someone had previously foul hooked it on a pink worm rig and broke it off. We took the hook out before we released it. Nothing weird going on here.

What a great day Fishnhunt. I have definitely been torn between heading out on the lake to ice fish or to start hitting the rivers. Your posts and other reports are making the decision very difficult.

Beautiful fish. The big boy looks like he has the potential to provide a few generations of healthy steel yet.
Haven't seen one pushing 35" in a LONG while, well done and thanks for releasing for sure!

I normally wouldn't ask this but I'm very very new to steelhead, especially in the winter. what river is this? I want to try for some steelhead in a couple of days but I have no idea where to go.

I've never caught a steelhead so any info will probably help. (sorry to be THAT GUY)
