I know things aren't primo, but at least the government has gotten you something to keep things rolling.I am not a Liberal backer ,but i must tip my hat to Ford and Trudeau. This isn't a blame game ,it's being a survivor in an unprecedented time ,at least for most of us.When I watch the media it makes me prouder than ever to be Canadian. The glass is half full and we are in a much better spot than others.

I guess I'll take all the money the Gov. wants to throw at me, although it's ridiculous trying to figure out if this cerb money is yours to use, or if they want it back later, or if you'll be taxed out the a## later. Just seems odd that any other time you get laid off the Gov. thinks your EI check is all you need.

That's the thing anyone who applies for EI gets it as well as there EI. Maybe they should verify you meet the criteria before they send it out.

Just wanted to check.
Multiple sources. By law as well as police in nippissing area have said it is okay to fish off shore. You just cant use any of the structures or amenities.

QUOTE (Chingachcook @ May 11, 2020 - 01:47 pm)
Most Canadians trust China about as much as they trust the guy who has a full stringer telling them with GPS accuracy where he actually caught them.

Which is about as much as we can trust Agent Orange and his enablers - ya the people who say Canadian steel is a national security threat to USA.

Trust has nothing to do with basic fact that Chinese response to virus was highly effective and American was very very ineffective. Trump is just using the blame game in an attempt to mask his own failure. He says China didn't warn him... It was all over the news since January. How much more of a warning do you need? The guy was praising the Chinese response himself up to the point when it became apparent his response is a total failure.

I'm not a China supporter in any shape or form, but facts are facts...

You can fish from shore as long as you are not trespassing or on a government closed area. North bay marina is closed but is the dock? Is the Town of Callander dock closed??? Fishing from a friends private dock is allowed. Hope this helps.

One might get the opposite view that you are not a China supporter.
Nary a bad word for the CCP but a few for the guys from the US who share another cabin in camp with you.

Your polemic hate for Trump is obscuring the more plausible scenario that the dictatorship that has total and absolute power in China screwed us over by hiding what transpired, punishing those who blew the whistle on them, then lying about transmission from person to person and to top it off they said the bad old Americans did this.

They fornicated us. All of us. From Madagascar to Ecuador. No one was spared. Especially the aged.

Giving the CCP the benefit of your doubt as you toss the USA to the curb is a little naive. You get to say this of course as unlike China no one goes to jail for speaking their mind in the western liberal democracies.

you didn't address any facts, just spilled ridiculous Trumpian propaganda....

fact is everyone had much more warning than China did, especially US and Canada as Europe got hit hard after China so in fact we had double warning

What's China's horrible human rights record got to do with those basic facts?

China ain't our friend and neither is US - everyone is just looking after their own interests. US clearly demonstrated in the last couple of years what they think of their "allies".

Well i guess that settles it then... . right to the playbook.... If you invoke the name of Trump or Harpers then that papers over your abject lack of a cogent argument ...

sounds more like a WtFISH fact than anything else.
China created the problem...then lied about the size of it, the risk it carried and how it was transmitted.

What's China's horrible human rights record got to do with those basic facts?

It goes to the character of the witness....If they jail and murder their own citizens... what regard could they possibly have for others ?

China fornicated us.... All of us. That you choose to look another way says more about you than it does about China.

QUOTE (Grumpa @ May 09, 2020 - 01:17 am)
This topic is getting heavy air play and rotation in central and southwestern Ontario...also recreational hotspots.
Local residents versus the influx of seasonal visitors from larger urban centers.
It's a very divisive topic. Strong feeling on both sides.
But let's keep the risks and the numbers in perspective and not lose complete sensibilities...allowing fear to overwhelm us.
As of May 8th there's approximately 20,000 covid-19 cases in Ontario. Sadly, 1,540 fatalities so far with a 72% recovery rate. But 1,150 or 75% of those fatalities are tragically in long term care facilities and a sizable number of the remaining 400 poor souls, had contributing underlying health issues prior to infection.
Every year 20/100,000 of the our Ontario population dies from seasonal influenza. In a province of 14 million that's 2,800 people.
Sobering statistics but relevant to the discussion.
If you're a vulnerable member of society, your health is comprised or you're just fearful of contagion...be prudent, continue to take precautions, isolate or social distance as your situation permits...your choice, your prerogative.
But here's another aspect of this debate to keep in mind and consider...
The Ontario Ministry of Tourism invests $5+ million annual to promote Northern Ontario tourism. There's 37,000 business in Northern Ontario...9,000 (24%, 1 in 4) tourism dependent (1,300 in the North Bay area alone)...employing 105,000 people or 36% of northern Ontario's working population. Northern Ontario visitors spend $1.5 billion annually, the average of $300 per overnight visit. This is why the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce and Tourism North Bay (TNB)/Sudbury spends massive amounts promoting and advertising Northern Ontario tourism and it's attractions through numerous portals, websites and other medium. Tourism and tourist $'s are vital to the livelihood of many Northern Ontario communities and families.
So...when it's deemed safe, social distancing protocols can be maintained and the appropriate working regulations implemented...allowing all northern Ontario business' to reopen......let's welcome, not deter, the annual influx of visitors...who are helping sustain the northern Ontario economy.
As a retired businessman and resident, I for one, will welcome you back Chingachcook (and all the other mostly responsible, reasonable and thoughtful seasonal visitors) with a hearty hello....as will a great number of northern Ontario business' and families (encompassing many of our friends, acquaintances and neighbors)...who are greatly dependent on your dollars.
Let northern Ontario business' have the right to earn those dollars once the opportunity again presents itself and the province deems it relatively safe to do so.
"A community can not survive which can't tell it's enemies from it's friends".

This gave me a good chuckle ...I can only aspire to be mostly responsible.
If I ever see you on the water, first round is on me. [SIZE=14]

It was actually you who invoked Trumps name, what does that say about your abject lack of a cogent argument?

No, thats just the actual fact.
The fact that there is an outbreak in Wuhan was publicized at the beginning of Jan.
The fact that there was human to human transmission happening was publicized in the middle of Jan.
The fact that Wuhan and other large cities in Hubei province were placed on lockdown was publicized on Jan 23.
The facts from Italy about how bad this was and how quickly it was spreading were known in the beginning of Mar.
There are many more facts of scientists and public health officials who were ignored while trying to sound the alarm.

Did China lie about the outbreak and try to downplay how bad it was? They absolutely did.
Was there enough information known early enough to prevent most of whats happening now? Yes there was, it just needed to be acted on.

They lock down their own country, and tell others that its all cool, nothing serious.
Yeah, you have to be an orange degenerate to believe them. And praise them for it too (as late as Feb 29)
