Nice fish jstrooms, good job...the larger artificials catch quality fish. So tell me again that there's nothing but small fish in Nip. The hard water reports had a good number of decent fish that were caught and photographed this past winter, don't take my word for it, look back on the entries...and anglers up and down the lake like jstrooms, ZzzAngler and Mrs. Zzz are adding good quality fish consistently since opening day...using tactics that target bigger fish. The kicker is....the numbers of fish you can catch in Nipissing, now, since the fishery started its regulated recovery in 2013/14...all in relative safety, fairly close to shore...without a lot of expensive equipment and effort. If you want a five pound average limit...head to Erie...buy or charter a huge boat and head out kilometers into a sometimes windy, treacherous lake and troll around with expensive downriggers and gear (plenty of fish to be had and 'kept' there...been there, done that)...or...you can fish Nipissing at a very reasonable cost, smaller boats if you wish, less expensive equipment and catch big numbers of 'mostly' smaller fish...with a good chance of landing a few quality fish, even a trophy every so often. Not to mention, trophy bass, perch, pike and world class muskie fishing as well. And if they go through with the planned regulations changes next spring...you'll get to keep a few more smaller edible walleye to boot. Keep up the great posts guys...loving the numbers of quality fish posted so far this year.

With the ongoing Covid restrictions, MNRF (along with other ministries) have restricted field activities, cancelled public meetings, and put many regulatory processes on hold. For Lake Nipissing this means there might not be an open water angler creel survey (those young people who stop and ask you questions about how long you have been fishing, what fish species you are hoping to catch, and measuring the fish you have chosen to harvest) for the first time ever! (this creel survey has been conducted on the lake annually since 1975). And without public consultation being able to take place it is unlikely that the proposed change to the size limits will put in place for 2021.
