I'm reaching out to folks here since it's a forum for outdoor activity. My mom's quite sick and terminal. She always remembered seeing a large batch of fireflies once after we finishing fish in the Guelph Lake area and were coming home on a small road in that area. She's always remembered how many fireflies and it's one of the things she talks about alot. It should be about the right season now. Just wondering if anyone knows a place not too far from the Vaughan area where I can go and have a good chance to show her fireflies again (Guelph area would be great as it may also bring back even more memories). Any help would be appreciated. Please send me a PM.

All I can really say is they have been out for about 2 weeks now about an hour north of T.O.

I don't know any public places unfortunately but around the pond is full at night.

I think if you hit some back roads after dark and pass any ponds or marsh's your going to see some.

I've had them here in my yard for a month or so.
Not in giant numbers or anything, but just saying, they're active in Muskoka right now.

Sorry to hear about your mom. I wish you great success with the fireflies, perhaps try Kortright centre with your request.

Flukes,

I live in the North end of Guelph, not far from Guelph Lake. I was having a fire last night and they were out for about 40 mins just around dusk. Good luck on your search

Thanks everyone....good to hear they are out in the Guelph area. My wife and I went out last night at about 9-9:30 and we found a bunch (not as great as my mom remembers but they were here ...in London). So we will look around her area when we go visit her on Monday and get her out on Monday or Tuesday night to see if we can find some in a nearby valley. If not, we will drive her out to Guelph in the same fields where we saw them so many years ago and then keep driving around until we can find a good bunch....of course, timing is critical because they are not out doing their thing all night long.
