Hi everyone,
Just wondering if the public dock at Port Perry is opened? Planning to take my nephew for some bass fishing on the dock. Any tips would be appreciated!

There was an issue recently where it was over crowded and locals complained about lack of covid physical distancing, I saw some traffic barrels were put there next day on a facebook group. I would go with the possibility of both over crowding or having to try a different spot like the library.

I live in port perry, and we really need a dedicated fishing pier, like Orillia has. The pier is too crowded, and too shallow. Summer fishing is lousy there, but good shore fishing opportunities are too scarce these days.

I went a couple of weeks ago in a morning at 7ish of a weekday. I think there were 15+ people fishing and more coming in when I left around 8:30am. For the most part people stayed 6ft+ away from each other and there were families with kids (they cooperated).
The only problem was on the floating dock, where there was very limited space and some people tried to cast as far out as possible. I got there early so I got myself a spot on an one of the arms that extends out. People saw my catch and started rushing towards my area. As I was unhooking my fish on the side , this middle aged man took my spot so I told him that I'm just unhooking my fishing and I am about to restart. He replied "6 feet right?" then I replied "yea , but I was going back to where I was fishing". He didn't leave. I gave him a "tsk" and he left with a look on his face.
I fished for another 15 mins and I left. I would say most people were cooperative and respectful to each other but it took a couple of people to ruin the experience.
Anyhow, if the locals put up traffic barrels that's a pretty bad sign. This can escalate to actual conflicts just like some years ago certain demographics were targeted and pushed into the lake.
Did anyone fish at the public dock at Bewdley recently? I can imagine it's pretty crowded there too and people fight over spots like crazy. I used to fish for crappies at night in the Fall there but about 6-7 years ago this group of people started showing up and I stopped going after witnessing some really rude behaviors.

This is exactly why I hate fishing on shore, too many people like to cram beside you and even with covid19 now they still don't care. Especially the case when they see you catch something, they instantly go to your spot.

Lives on the lake, tried to dock for pizza...crap show.
It was pretty bad last time I was there (last year). Had to deal with 20 people fishing at the boat launch beside BJ's, none of which seemed too eager to reel in their lines when we were getting off the water.

Hi Tonyangler,
I feel your pain, same thing happen to me years ago when I was fishing at Bewdley in fall for Walleye, I was fishing at the very edge of the corner, when I turn around To change lure. I notice a man was casting and walking towards my spot. After I finished to change the lure I stood up and turn I found that man was right behind me. I let him did a few cast then asked him “ You finished? I am here first” his reply in a loud voice “ I fish here all the time! “ then the people beside me told him I was there first. Also his friend asked him “ come back here “. It makes me believe all the stories people told me - fighting and fishing.
Don’t just think it only happen at shore fishing, when I was doing crappie fishing in Spring in scugog in a small river. Other boat saw me caught fisH then they will cast to the same spot although their boat was 20-30 ft apart.

Glad to hear so much consensus out there in this community! Also a bit frustrated since seemingly there arent any good places for shorefishing anymore. These days google map and a lot of paid Apps give you detailed info on the geography of lakes and rivers. This used to be somewhat exclusive knowledge in a small community.
I used to have these shorefishing spots that my closest of friends and family introduced me to and every time I went it's only me or at most 1 -2 anglers who obviously respected the sport.
These days these spots are no longer exclusive, which in some way is bound to happen due to the increased in population. Afterall, all the lakes and rivers are public. I am happy to see people enjoying this awesome sport.
Anyhow, I called a few marinas and none of them is opened. One is opened but they charge $100+ for a 9HP 14 footer/day, not including gas! Does anyone know of any good/reliable marinas on Pigeon/Buckhorn area? Please PM me!
