Well, just got back from 7hrs of fishing from 8 - 3pm. Since it wasn't too windy we decided to go up towards Bobcaygeon this time as we don't often get up that way too much. Tried a couple of holes but nothing and then went into the 10km area and cast to shore. Nothing big caught except an 11" and 2-10" perch which were thrown back. Lots of bass but only in the 1-1.5lb range. Nothing on the jika rig today. I ended up catching most of my fish on a twister tail just on a bare hook which I usually have a wacky worm on. They didn't want the worm but liked the twister. It was a beautiful day out but could have used a bit of a breeze to drift fish.
We find the morning bite to be tough and usually can't catch a fish until after 10am. Does any one else have this problem. Maybe we are just in the wrong areas for the morning bite. We have tried both shallow and deep.

Yeah, I know you do real early days but we have been out as early as 6am and still can't catch a fish until 10am. Maybe the fish sleep in on Sturgeon. I'd rather be in anyway on weekends but I hear the fish calling me.
It's always fun on the water and enjoying the sun and catching fish is bonus but I don't like to get skunked. Give me at least a panfish and I'm happy.

Thanks for the info. Maybe we will just concentrate on doing evening bite and get a little more sleep in the mornings. We haven't done any fishing after dark as we are relatively new to boating (5 years with our own boat) but I think we have been fishing Sturgeon long enough that we could try the night bite. We also have a GPS which would help out alot as well.

Was just checking the solunar table and it shows a predawn bite time this past wee and gradually phasing into a later morning bite.
I can't really comment on how the fishing is up there as it's a differnt water body, but for me it's been a hot bite at first lite, then a slowdown pick of 1 fish every 20 minutes from around 8-9 or so then real active (hot) from 9.30 on until noon..example.today 7 fish from 6 am to 7 am....7 fish from 7am till almost 9 am. and 16 fish from 9 am to 10.30...
The few times I have fished sturgeon was always better for me/us in the late afternoon evening and after dark, especially for walleye.
Anyhow, that's what makes fishing fun, trying to figure out patterns...

Great report Nicole and glad you had a nice weekend..
Agreed for some reason some mornings I am out there at dawn and it seems everything is still asleep! I usually hook into the first fish after 10 am..
Then other mornings at first light I hammer bass and then they shut down by 10 am.. I think it has to do with pressure changes at dawn some mornings, but not 100% sure. Could be the moon, I don't know.. Maybe the fish Gods are just Crazy.
Dan, great job out there! I'm glad the night bite paid off for you..

Only being able to fish on weekends and not having a cottage to go back to, our time is limited so we have to pick and choose when we fish. Maybe I should try and pay more attention to the lunar tables and air pressure but if the weather is good and winds are not crazy, that is most likely when we will go fishing regardless of whether we are fishing the best times or not.
