Man drowns in pond

I don't get this story at all. What were these 2 guys doing in the storm drain?

Sadly being idiots I would say. Stupid takes a lot of lives.

Every few years someone dies walking up a storm drain when a flash flood hits. Happens across Northern America.

In the last 21 years I've never seen the amount of rain we got in Burlington yesterday in such a short time.We have had some good storms over the years but yesterday was the craziest I've seen.
One burst of rain lasted an hour and it was a torrential downpour. My back yard had a 16 inches of water at the back fence and about 8 feet wide..I've never seen any water in the area before yesterday..even the street had more water then I've seen flowing on them..
Someone called the city I guess because there were city folk inspecting the drains today.
What ever they were doing doesn't really matter anymore... could have tried to shelter grim the storm. It was a ten foot tall drain and about the same wide... lives changed forever yesterday for some.
Condolences to all affected..

Let's take it easy on calling people stupid that had already paid with their lives.... remember they may have friends or family on this forum... let's not add to anyone's already excruciating pain.....we can't help thinking what we think but you can control other things.
I've done stupid things... lots of them. I really do think we all have. I'd rather be kicked when I'm standing so I can defend myself.... not when I'm down.

I am sorry someone lost their life truly and very sorry for the ones left behind. With the deluge we had being near any moving water is just unwise never mind being in a storm drain.

Well I gotta agree with Disco. Too much sugar coating these days. It makes no sense to be in a storm drain rain or no rain. Media left something out of the story IMO as they always do.

Not clear from the article but the ‘drain’ is in fact very large concrete structure - upwards of 10 ft high and just as wide - not pipes. Almost like a pedestrian underpass. In fact the entire inside is filled with grafetti. Easily accessible and large.

Quite possible they took shelter from the rain not expecting the water to rise upwards of 8ft between the two ponds trapping them. This report Better shows what’s involved.

I-Watched it on the news. Pretty clear as to what it was. There was no need to be there. Unfortunately a life was lost.

Ok thanks. It is clearer now. It doesn't look like a storm drain per se, it looks like a hangout. Misadventure and bad decision. I guess they need to fence it off now. sorry for the loss
