that a nasty looking wound. I know I wouldn't want to be bit by one. Good for the bother, I hope he catches it.

I remember when that attack in Muskoka happened. Ever since I would certainly think twice about swimming in Musky water. No way I would let my kids (4 and 3) in there.

Years ago, a number of local kids were jumping off the Kinmount bridge on Hwy 121 over the Burnt River (despite warning signs that this activity was illegal). One of the Crego boys screamed for help but most of the kids felt he was just fooling around. He had been attacked by a musky and had to be taken to the Lindsay hospital where a large number of sutures were required to close the gashes in his foot. Some research was done into musky attacks in Ontario as well as U.S. states where muskies are numerous. The results showed that such instances most often took place in bodies of water where the algae presence was quite high. Also, the majority of attacks involved musky grabbing the foot of swimmers as they tread water. The conclusion from the Minnesota researchers was that the up and down movement of a white sole in poor conditions of visibility might be mistaken for a distressed or injured sucker, a prime target of foraging muskies. This doesn't explain the rationale for a musky grabbing a stationary calf of a woman standing in a lake. I guess when you are the top predator of a body of water and have no real natural enemies you just might attack anything offering an easy meal.

A bit frightening sure,

Realistically though, your kid likely has a higher chance of breaking an ankle climbing the stairs at home.

Think of how many people swim all over the place in our lakes and rivers, and how seldom a pike or Muskie attack happens.

Growing up in bobcaygeon my dads friend got his fingers bit really good as they were dangling in the water over the side of the boat.
I remember as a kid just about to jump off our dock and a huge head was sticking out from under. Scared the hell out of me! I ran inside and got my rod but by the time I got back I could see the tail swimming out of sight. There were some huge ones in that lake back in the day.
Still don’t love swimming in Muskie lakes!
