Sprat, what are they? I'm not that familiar with edible summer mushrooms, but I keep looking for, lobster, and chicken of the woods. One day I'll find them and try them.

Yellow ones are chanterelles, absolutely delicious. 2nd photo is hemileccinum subglabripes, bolete family. A bit mushy once cooked but also very tasty. Found a few lobsters north of barrie the other day. Still havent seen any chickens. Im new to summer shrooms as well, used to go out only in the fall. Seems to be a good year so far!

Sprat - Been at this shrooming for several years now.
Something the wife and I learned about boletes. If you dehydrate them they tastes amazing after you re hydrate them to cook. They firm up big time. She stores them in mason jars after dried.

We tried dehydration once, I think it was with Morels and the spores blew everywhere like crazy. After that all the drying was performed outdoors. Is there a secret to doing them I havn't discovered?

No secret to drying boletes. Just slice like you were to cook them and put them on the drying racks. I have never dried morels so I can't comments on the spore but boletes it is certainly not an issue.
I havent found many boletes up my way yet. Hoping soon. Usually get lots while hunting birds.

I need to give bolete I try, I'm still new to the wild mushroom world. After practicing with the compounds yesterday we took a little walk around. My nephew and I found three nice size maitake. Felt like we really scored what an amazing mushroom.
