Hey all,
I have a trip to the french planned for next week, but the weather as of now is looking like around 8 degrees as a high and raining pretty much the whole time. So I dont hate my life the whole time, was wondering what rain suit worked for you guys in the past. I'm willing to spend a bit of dough, I just want something proven so I can concentrate on the fishing and not focus on fending off hypothermia.

Gore-tex outer wear is great. Some research will give you the benefits of this material - plus the company's control over the use of its brand/technology. Especially this time of year, a set of coat and bib pants that are unlined/uninsulated is the key. You can change the layers of warmth of your undergarments according to the day.

F YOU CAN AFFORD IT, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND GORE-TEX OUTERWARE. THE SET I HAVE CAME AS BASS PRO BRANDED AND WORKS REALLY WELL. I HAVE THE BIBS AND JACKET. YOU CAN GET A SPECIAL LINET FO EXTREME WINDS TOO IF YOU WISH. THE SUIT FUNCTIONS GREAT AND FITS PERFECTLY WGILE BEING COMFORTABLE TO WEAR ALL DAY. MID LAYES WILL HELP ODERATE YOUR TEMPERATURE AND CUT DOWN ON SWEAT

8 deg, rain and wind, I might be temped to wear my ice gear, I have artic armor that I wear in red and coat in camo that i wore this morning with 1 deg. My boy as wore it in pouring rain with temps around 5deg and was dry and warm. So maybe if you have float suit take it.

100% on Gortex Materials like Simms products ... but$$$...left my mine at home one day so hit a dollar store on the way up and got the rain poncho ...worked well for that day then I wrapped my catch up with it because I didn't bring any garbage bags with me ...also another good rain blocker in a pinch.

I’ve got a MEC nylon raincoat and a North Face nylon raincoat that both have some breath ability so you don’t get soaked from the inside out. Both have gotten me through some trips where it did nothing but rain and because they are nylon like material you can shake them out and they dry in no time unlike some rain gear with material that will soak up rain but have a gore-Tex liner. Also the price was between 120-150 bucks. I also have a pair of MEC rain pants I swear by. Even kneeling in a canoe with water in the bottom you stay dry. Layer up underneath as needed. Just my two cents.

I have a Goretex rainjacket that I take on canoe trips but it is a bit flimsy. I also do not buy into that 'breathability' bit. My rain jacket for fishing is much sturdier---some sort of name brand, not sure what. Layers are the key to warmth

If you can afford it check out Simms Pro Dry It’s unbelievable- well made , very light and will keep you dry in heavy rains . Cabelas and Bass Pro Gore tex products are also good.
