Muskie casting setup

I have always trolled for muskie, but have noticed the majority of fishers in Pigeon, Buckhorn, etc. cast for them. Any suggestions for a decent casting setup that won't break the bank.

I don't know if you're a hardcore bass guy like myself but I just use my upper echelon bass gear extra heavy flipping rod, heavy rods, swimbait rods, bait casters with about 25lb drag I just have to remember to back off drag a tiny bit or thumb it, as far as heavier lures, the 130 whopper ploppers makes so much noise comparative to size and being a prestigious tackle snob I enjoy my collection of smaller swimbait lures. Despite being young I just don't have it in me to throw a 6oz lure all day anyway. I imagine if I ever hooked into a mid 50's I might wish I had dedicated musky gear but for how much I fish for them I'm happy horsing in mid 40's and not buying musky specific gear. Other than that I've lost all reality with what is and what isn't breaking the bank.

When I used to fish musky my starting setup was a flipping stick matched with an Abu Garcia C3 or C4 reel. Nowadays you can get musky specific rods at Bass Pro for pretty cheap and I'd still go with the Abu baitcaster.

No bells and whistles, just good gear that'll get the job done.

agree with the boys - i have a couple c3's are they are bullet proof and cast really well. you may want to pair it with fenwick/st croix for a couple hundred or go for a bass pro version - I have a browning rod from BP that has been great. you can also go crazy and and spend a fortune for good gear too!
