I had to go out and check out a couple island jobs today, so I figured I’d fish my way home.
Started out by tangling up with a nice solid 38” pike on a drop shot. Sure was a fun fight on a spinning outfit and 8lb line.
Then I changed to a spinnerbait as the wind picked up. Caught a nice bass about 4lbs and a few minutes later got a gorgeous thick, 42” pike that hammered the spinnerbait off a big tapering point. Took about 5 minutes and multiple long runs before she finally tired enough to get in for a couple pics before she swam off.
About two minutes after I released her, I heard a sickening, loud “crack!”, and looked up to see a boat about 1/2 mile away. Twenty seconds later I heard yelling and horn honking, and I then knew what the crack was, they found one of the bay’s many motor killers!
Luckily everyone was ok, but the lower unit was tore right off. After a 40min tow, I had them back to their landing. As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, right at the end of my trip I managed to send a spinnerbait about 80 mph through my windshield. Great mess to have to clean up
Sure was a crazy day, you never know what’s gonna happen out there.
