So I talked to a mnr officer about the situation on rice lake..Like said in the article all charges where not related to illegal use of lights.. You can use a light IN the boat BUT if it's directly shinning in the water it's illegal..He also said what you may think is fine the officer may not.. He suggested just using enough lite to see and keep it centered in the boat... He said that they are watching all kawartha lakes as rice wasn't the only lake they received reports on..

Thanks for sharing .Good on MNR for explaining and educating the public
For me , it’s pretty straight forward - do not have any special lights directed down into water and you will be fine when fishing at night .
The subject was not brought up in the past so a few people started taking Advantage .

They are watching, but they aren't doing much about it. Go to chemong lake tonight and see for yourself. Every night they are out there in dinghys with lights in the water. I have approached them and get the " no speak english" response, and they just keep on doing it. Its complete BS. Mnr has been called many, many, many times. It would be very easy for them to catch these guys, but still, no response.

I have gotten to the Detroit River before daylight just to get a parking spot. So start jigging almost immediately. Nav lights on and use a flash light to tie jigs, then turn off. This is not illegal. I have seen in Florida a guy had a big light anchored to the bottom shining up. I was amazing watching the big fish come in after the bait fish. You'd see the big fish on the edges just waiting for the bait fish to come. This guy never fished, just like to watch the show.

Lights used to attract fish are illegal in Ontario, but not down south. Most, if not all, states allow for their use. Here's a light that sold through BPS that I've seen in action in Texas....it really attracts the plankton which attracts the bait fish which attracts the big predators.

That is terrible.
They should be fined and banned from fishing by MNR. Probably the same people that whack the Salmon over the head with machetes in the Ganaraskan.
