Few questions as I’m new to the BOQ, never fished it nor have I ever fished walleye but I want to try it this year. I’m not new to ice fishing though by any means. While I have a machine I don’t plan on using it, as from what I’ve heard, the BOQ ice is sketchy, so I plan to just walk and spud. At least until later and I see where people are riding. I keep hearing about porters, where is this? I can’t find that access but that seems to be where a ton of people head out of so I’m guessing would be a good spot for a newbie to eyes and the area. What kind of I water features should I be looking for? Thanks for any help guys!

potters is typically the first place that freezes up but the fishing there is notoriously slow and gets crowded but that's the bay in general. if you google potters creek conservation area you'll find the location to park. I think someone at work said there was a hut out there a few days ago.

Glad your cautious. I've had 6 inches of ice then 5 feet away its 2 inches. Same as it was 6 inches one day then 3 inches the next day In the same spot. Sketchy always on BOQ . I'll send ya a PM for your question

was down to one of my favorite early ice spots on the BOQ on dec 22.... 4 to 4.5 in of good ice all the way out, and where I was fishing. went again on the 26th.. bout 3 in at shore... and reduced to 2.5, then 2inches where I fished..... marked and played with perch, but no eyes. Ice thickness dissapointing, and trending the wrong direction.. gonna head north.
