Well.... I did it. Got out on two lakes, first one had slightly less ice than I wanted and couldn’t get out to depth for walleye and rainbows. Second lake had sufficient ice to travel the lake.
Marked one very large fish on the bottom in 8 fow on lake 1, maybe a bow maybe an eye... maybe a bass who knows, it wasn’t interested. I decided I wanted to to get to depth and structure so I traveled to Lake 2. Made my way out, tap tap splash.... better than tap, splash. Made my way out maybe 100 ft from my car, 3” ice... so I made a few holes with the bar and set my lines. Using worms and small spoons. Started in 8 fow and nothing, made my way to a steep drop from 15-20fow and fished the contour, bang! Fish on.... been waiting for that since April! Fish maybe 2 hours went 3 for 5 and kept em for a breakfast celebration for tomorrow. All fish were on a small EGB tipped with a 1” piece of worm. Fish were tight on bottom, but active and chasing.
Nice to scratch the itch, but I think it made the itch worse lol.

Nothing big means the best eating though if you’re like me and want to keep some but like the fight of the big ones that go back anyway! Big fish are just a bonus but I’m just as happy catching those little ones when I’m purposely targeting fish that can be good to eat! They look perfect!
