Hi. Anyone have any insight into the Pflueger and Fenwick brand?I realise they are now under pure fishing but their selection is now terrible. The fenwick website used to be so helpful. I wonder if they are even built in the US any more. Pflueger only has a couple bait caster reels? Really annoying.

Almost all my rods are Fenwick's. I like them a lot but they are not the same as what they used to be with regards to quality IMO. They moved production to China about 6 years ago.
Very sensitive and light but they are delicate and not recommended for kids or rookies.
The only issue I have ever had with my Pflueger reels is sometimes the handle comes loose on it's own when in my rod case and it's became a habit to check that every time now.

I have a pair of Fenwick HMG casting rods as well as a pfluger president spinning reel that I used this summer. Really impressed with the HMG line of rods. No complaints on the reel it does exactly what I wanted and expected it to do. I wouldn't compare them to some of my higher end Shimano gear however.

I use Fenwick rods and back them. The reels arent exactly high end, however their durability is incredible. I have used a president spinning reel for almost 6 years, don't exactly treat it the best and have still not had a single issue with it.

For casting I have a pflueger president xt and patriarch, the xt was pretty solid for the $60 I spent on it, but never used it enough to check durability of it. The patriarch is nothing special by any means it's alright, but doesn't crack the line up typically for me.
For spinning I have the president xt and supreme xt, the president xt is the best reel hands down for anywhere near the $70 sale price. The supreme is a little better but for double the price certainly not worth it.
For fenwick I only have an elite tech, all brands have their own power ratings in the sense of Okuma's medium heavy is always going to be more of a medium, that elite tech is certainly on the heavy side than the medium side, which isn't a bad thing it's just how they define their power rating, in the elite tech lineup anyway.

president xt is a good value reel. Can't go wrong with that.
If you are looking for something a bit lighter and can afford the extra cash, Shimano definitely the way to go.
For rods, I've only used the 3 piece backcountry Fenwick rod from SAIL. It's a decent lightweight rod good for portaging inside it's case. In the cottage boat though I stick with St. Croix for rods.

I'm on Fenwick side, maybe because of my experience with product and customer service, there was a problem I called customer service and even warranty was expired I got replacement, course I don't want to say no to Pflueger it it deserve good words as good product, it just my preference
