So looks like operators are booked up January and February with few vacancies in March. I never really imagined that they would have been so busy with covid-19 and all. My group is thinking of doing a self-serve trip as we're all ice fisherman with machines and equipment. I've been with operators that launched from the end of Birch Grove Road and was wondering if that is a public access point. As well, to my knowledge the closest accommodation would be a motel in powassan unless anyone can tell me otherwise. Any input appreciated.

That area is a public area but as you stated, operators use that as an access point as well so is quite busy. If you have 4 wheel drive vehicle, people usually just park on the lake there. Powassan is about 25 minute drive from that access point of motels on Lakeshore is about 30 minute drive
