Anybody know if ice studs can be screwed into boots where the sole is made out of EVA rather than rubber? EVA is great because it has additional insulative qualities, but its a lot less dense than rubber, so I was concerned that screw in ice studs may not hold in the longer term with this kind of material. I know there is no problem with rubber. I tried contacting the manufacturer, but they weren't sure themselves, so I was hoping someone on this forum may have some actual first hand experience. Thanks in advance for any advise that can be provided.

Hey drosien, the screw in studs work amazingly but I would watch if you wear them around your house, i.e. driveway as they can come out from time to time and you don't want those things ending up in your vehicles tires, which happend to me once, so I just went and bought cleets with rubber on them that strap onto your boots that are amazing, which is what I got when the studs started coming out. So in response, yes, they do work excellent, you just have to be weary if the come off, hopefully not anywhere where they would end up in a tire. Hope this helps.

Royal distributing sells ice studs individually for 15 cents each. I use them on my ATV tires and they work well. No reason why they would not work on boots. If you use 8 per boot that would only cost $2.40.

I have Baffin Titans and numerous people have said that studs will not stay in their soles. I'm not sure what material the soles are made from.

I do too have Titans and I can confirm, they hold nice first and then go one by one over the season. tried different glues to no avail. Have to wear ice cleats over boots, would rather have studs in. That rubber is just too soft

OK thanks for the feedback. Not sure what kind of rubber the soles of the Titans are made out of, but they are definitely some kind of rubber, which is way more dense and rigid than EVA material so for sure the studs wouldn't hold then. That is what I thought, but thought I'd at least check.

btw - for anyone reading this, the boots I was looking at putting the studs into is a brand called Nats. I never heard of them until someone made a post about them a month or so ago on the forum. I got the model R200 because most of the other models were too wide to comfortably get snow pants over, but too narrow to tuck the snow pants into. I will give an updated review once I can actually try them out on the ice, but so far they seem fantastic. Light as a feather (only a pound each including liner due to the EVA soles), super comfy and when I tried them on in the house, they were literally like a furnace (rated down to -121F). Too bad they aren't that well known, they seem like a great boot.

You can buy knock off katahula micro spikes from princess auto for $20. Way better than any studs and they are easy on and easy off. I see no sense in making my boots suitable for only one purpose when there are other excellent options.
