Keep it up guys. All I can say is the little fish I take out of the lake in no way has any strain on the resource. If all you guys can say the same let me the first to congratulate you.

By some of the responses of you guys I doubt that is the case. So cool it.

People need to take more time to read and understand the regs, too many people looking for what they want to hear instead of educating themselves. If theres something you dont understand maybe try putting it out there like " can someone help with clarification on this?" Or "am I reading this right?" Im sure the replies would be a lot more useful to you.

He doesn't care about regulations. He's convinced that since he only goes fishing once a year, it entitles him to ignore limits, and started this thread to get validation. He didn't like not getting it, so he tossed in some accusations for "locals" who surely catch more than their limit.

FYI I have never gone against any possession limits.and never had any intention to do so The only reason I barked back was because some of you guys attacked me first. So let's drop the name calling and be civil.

Yes by now we know your views on limits. You need not say more....

QUOTE (Neil @ Jan 18, 2021 - 04:42 pm)
There is a little more to this as well. In some cases there are separate catch and possession limits but these are the same for fish caught in Nipissing. This means as Shank pointed out and assuming you have a sport fishing licence and in the case of walleye that once you have two keepers over 46cm in the cooler to go home you are done. Keeping another fish puts you over the limit. Your buddy is allowed the same assuming he also has a sport fishing licence. You can eat your two fish and get two more assuming you find several larger fish. If you got your wives a conservation license they would only be allow 1 walleye over 46cm each that they catch. If they get sport fishing licenses they would both be allowed to catch and possess 2 walleye over 46cm.
Perch have a catch and possession limit of 50 with a sport licence and 25 with a conservation licence.

Catch and possession limits

The catch limit is the number of fish you are allowed to catch and keep in one day and includes fish that are not immediately released and any fish eaten or given away. Catch limits apply to each individual and any fish gifted to another person count towards your catch limit even if they are gifted to a member of your fishing party.

The possession limit is the number of fish you are allowed to have in your possession on hand, in cold storage, in transit, or anywhere. Possession limits are the same as one day’s catch limit except where otherwise specified. If you catch a fish after reaching the daily catch or possession limit for that species, the fish must be released immediately. If the limit is zero, anglers may practice catch and release only, and any fish caught must be released immediately

" You can eat your two fish and get two more assuming you find several larger fish."

I don't think so.

You are correct Limacharley and I should clarify. You can only catch and keep two fish on any particular day. Even if you eat the two caught on the same day you have still reached you daily catch and possession limit but can catch and keep two more fish the next day. So on and so forth.

Thanks for pointing out my error.

DOnt worry Neil to explain yourself, apparently he did not read paragraph 2 of your post or just chose not to and reply with another negative post

So... if I come home with a bucket of perch, I can't give some to my neighbor?

Yes you can, but they still count towards your daily catch/possession limits.

So if my neighbor decides to put the 30 perch I gave him into his freezer then I how many I'm I allowed to catch?

Found this in the rules which should answer your question. I am not sure what would happen if a CO came into your neighbours house and found 30 perch in their freezer if they did not have a license though.

Catch and possession limit

Catch and possession limits are set to:

protect fish populations against overfishing
give all anglers a fair share of the fisheries resources

Catch limit

The number of fish you can catch and keep in a day. It includes:

fish you don’t release right away
fish you eat
fish you give away

Your daily catch limit counts towards your possession limit.
Possession limit

The total number of a species of fish that you can have in your possession at any time. It includes fish caught today and in the past, whether they are:

freshly landed
in your car or boat
in your cooler
at home in your fridge or freezer

Your possession limit does not include fish you have:

eaten
given away

Thanks Neil - the question now becomes what happens (can happen) to the neighbour if they continue to hoard the fish given to them so the eventually have 100+ fish in the freezer? Could even be innocent enough with neighbour who said he/family ate them so you continue to give them more. Can they be charged? Would it matter if they had a license or not? Otherwise I imagine the wheels are turning and someone looking to skirt the Regs would set up an arrangement where the neighbour ‘stores’ the fish to avoid his own possession limits.

By the sounds of it, someone is going to be cooking up a couple dozen 17 inchers, and then asking whats a slot?, i have seen videos of dudes in Bungalows with the same mentality, and this is great justification as to why the slot limit on Nip is not such a bad idea. Could you imagine if the slot allowed you to keep a couple of those 16-17 inch fish that everyone in those bungalows catch all weekend? i am sure that some groups would be harvesting all weekend and cooking up the 30 or so they caught,

I am not suggesting that the majority would fall into that category, but this OP is a prime example of the mentality that could have an impact. It would only take few groups each weekend and with that many operators and that many Bungalows you could image the amount of harvest.

Justifying over harvesting based on the amount of time you spend on the lake is a selfish entitled mentality, and is the exact reason we have to be regulated, as this type of ignorance would be the death of many great fishery's. If everyone just took what they think they are entitled to could you imagine.

I hope the Feedback you recieved from the 20 replies helps you understand as to why people react that way to such a inquiry.

Cheers
Have fun and be Safe

You have to remember that it is not only fishermen taking fish out of lake nipissing. There is also a commercial harvest coming out of this lake with greater numbers.
