So minnows are hard to come by in my area, so I'm trying to trap some for the first time in the Winter. See what happens, and veteran tips always welcome.

I tend to get all mine in faster moving streams. I find the the ponds that produce in the summer, dont produce in the winter

So I put the trap in a stream in a deep hole with fast water running into it. Went back today busted through the ice again. Unfortunately while bringing the trap up through the ice and wood and getting a little rowdy I ripped the end right off. But after getting it up there was still one minnow in the other half of the trap. So proof of concept I have more traps just need to fine tune my operation. My ice breaker worked well, I used a 10 lb downrigger cannon ball attached to a chain took a few tosses but worked well to get through the thin ice.
