I know some of you fill your own tanks but for those of you getting them filled where do you go?? Costco fills them and I think and it's a good price but they have a flat rate.. It cost me 8.10 to fill a brand new 11lb tank. So even if you half empty tank you pay full price regardless. Are there places that charge by how much they fill?? Thanks.

i believe every where is a flat rate as they have no idea how much propane they are putting in your tank. they go by weight to tell when they are full
The tank is on a scale so if it has half a tank they would know and you would just pay the difference..
the scale is only to let them know when its to max propane volume. most places are farm style scale with the slide weight they don't weigh the tank before they start to fill.

It must depend on location. I'm in Barrie and Costco here charges what they put in. Cost about $3-$4 to fill 5 lb tank
Key do you pay where you get it filled? At my Costco you pay first and give the receipt to the filler..
At the Costo store where I do refill, it is refilling first, then a receipt is printed per actual amount refilled, and then I go to pay with the receipt, and then return to pick up the refilled tank.
