It must depend on location. I'm in Barrie and Costco here charges what they put in. Cost about $3-$4 to fill 5 lb tank
Key do you pay where you get it filled? At my Costco you pay first and give the receipt to the filler..
At the Costo store where I do refill, it is refilling first, then a receipt is printed per actual amount refilled, and then I go to pay with the receipt, and then return to pick up the refilled tank.
Same as Costco Barrie. They fill, print receipt, then go in and pay.

Yes flat rate... so when I get home... I turn on the big buddy and place most my stuff in front of it to dry things up. I’ll make sure I’ll empty the tank and make sure the tank has no chucks of ice stuck on it.
Fill at Costco. I have 3 tanks so I go fewer times.

I get mine from the local U-haul. A little handier than costco for me. Dude fills the tank and tells me how much he put in, I go inside and tell the cashier. Always under $5.

Some of the older Costco locations like Ajax don't have the digital print out to measure how much propane was used to fill the tank, so they charge a flat rate.

Personally what I'm always looking for is a privately owned gas station that sells propane...... Usually can find it for $.75 a pound.... In Etobicoke just north or south of the 401 in any of these sort of places. At the begining of last year I went to one that I've never been to before , gave the guy my 20 pounder for the BBQ and he went on to charge me $17 so I said "hey bud, last time I was here you said you were gonna give a good price on the propane if I came here next time" .... He gave me a bit of stink eye, paused, started nodding and said " ah yes...yourrr a good man...I rrrememberr you ." BOOM!!!! $15
