Got a hut from Taj/Casey's off Port Bolster fishing for perch. Caught a few keeper early in the morning.

Then before noon dropped my work cellphone to the bottom of 22 fow water.

Water is clear, and I can see my phone on the water floor

Then for the next 4 hours: with big vibrato adding some extra big treble hooks, I fished and fished and finally landed the phone!

The phone is dead now, and I lost all of my cellphone contact numbers. Also lost Navionics map and marked spots, etc.

And to a few of buddies on this board who have been in touch with me via cellpohone, for now you won't reach me I am sure.

I will have to see when I can get a replacement cellphone, and if I can still keep the same number,...

Hey congrats with your phone. Mine fell into the minnow bucket one time (slid off the seat) and my cell provider was able to retrieve everything for me..Good luck

Sorry to hear about your sacrifice to the lady: she gives and she takes .
Hope it wasn’t my text that had you bring the phone out.
You can try putting it in a bag of rice for several days, after removing battery. . Battery will be shot but phone may work. Do not turn on until dried out.

Taj's buddy did try with a big piece of magnet, and drop it right onto the phone at the bottom of the water, but it didn't work. I guess it might work if like some people, stick/glue a piece of magnet to the back of the phone....

Try it in the living room to see if the phone is magnetic enough.

James, I know your pain all too well.
Last time I rented a hut from Taj, I had a similar mishap. I was cleaning some slush from the hole, and my phone fell from my chest pocket right into the water. Ever since then, I make sure all my pockets are zipped shut
My wife still makes fun of me....

I remember a couple of years ago I went out in one of the rental huts on Cook's bay, the day went okay (no fish mind you) but overall we were happy. While packing up the car to go home I somehow managed to close the car door on my phone. Not down the ice hole or minnow bucket but literally bent in a 90-degree angle. Crappy luck

Lmao my point is, ice fishing is bad news for phones one way or another. Tight lines!

Sorry to hear about the wet phone !
Happened to me a few years ago in the D.R phone fell off the boat.

Remove battery if possible, then a ziplock bag of dry rice & crackers do a great job of absorbing moisture.
2-3 days of waiting but it did eventually turn back on but the screen was mostly blotched.

I was able to retrieve most everything on the phone hooking up to the computer.

Good luck with yours. (might work faster if you leave the back of the phone off while sitting in the rice (just an idea)

can't believe you hooked your phone nice catch. It would have taken a huge quantity of rice to dry it out if it would stay at the bottom of simcoe.

Sorry to hear, but if you have a google phone or even apple and if you back it up, copying data (contacts, apps, messages etc...) is pretty straight forward. when you log in to your new phone, Android anyways it asks if you want to restore from previous phone... hopefully you had it backed up which I believe is default...

Learned the hard way, lost 2 phones over the years ice fishing. Mine didn't go straight down, it swung back and forth and side ways and never to be seen again.

Also, most of those small cell phone places can get the phone working again once it dries out. Likely the battery is shorted.

Good luck.
