This guy moved his hut across the bay and left a total mess, wood, bucket, rod holder, garbage, looks like his minnows still tied to a piece of wood in a hole. This was definitely left this way at least two days, if shore was closer I’d mark it but it’s a long walk out. Next time out if it’s not cleaned up I’ll make the trek across the bay and grab his hut number and report it. Geez. No shortage of sled traffic in the area.

Let's hope the person comes back and cleans up the mess. Good luck on your next outing. I may try to walk out to a shoal this evening that you sent me a PM about in the past.

I still don’t understand the appeal of the huge hole you can lose all your gear in or worse fall into. Once you get the head of the fish in an 8” hole it’s not going anywhere anyway if you know what you’re doing!

Chewing gum, fishing line with hooks, cigarette buts, plastic water bottles. People love fishing and bring everything for comfort but don't take the time to pack everything up... that's not how I was taught "put it in your pocket" that what mom and dad told me for garbage.

Another one. Nicely marked with a branch though, so you don't run into all the blocks of wood, and bleach jug, and garbage melted into the ice. Makes me embarrassed to have a permanent shack, as now I'm grouped with these losers.

I totally agree If you can carry it in with you full, why can't you take it out empty?????

I wish the MNR could somehow mark each ice shack position (GPS) and when an areas is not cleaned up they could look up the ice shack number which corresponds to the coordinates present them with a fine.
Last year the MNR had two girls (I presume students) who were bombing around on lake Nippising and they stopped at every hut to check on how many fish were caught, size and species. They could easily tag that job onto them as well.

somewhat reasonable, however shacks don't always stay in one place all year. I move as conditions and ice allow. There's one i saw the other day with plywood ripped off the side and it has moved a few hundred yards from the wind gusts lately. Didn't see if it still had numbers on it, but guys could easily remove the numbers and cut their losses

I was moving some materials out to a job on Tobins Island today. Whoever the douchebags were that had their huts just out from Skeleton Bay, off the shoal by Gabella island, I picked up all your junk and wood you left out there, you lazy @$$holes! This would be great to hit with a boat when the ice goes out. Next time, take the 2 MINUTES it takes to knock loose and pick up all your crap!

Backroadsfishing makes a great suggestion. GPS each hut's coordinates twice every winter to make up for the odd person moving their huts...especially on lakes like Nipissing. Digital picture of the hut would help too.
I picked up 3 beer cans and a dog toy off the ice from a back lake off of Hwy 63 yesterday.
Some ice fishermen don't deserve the right to fish.

Everyone I fished with this year was absolutely blown away to see adult lakers swim within inches of your hole, for newbies and rookies, it can make for lifetime memories, even when you don't get them to bite. Never see that thru a 8" hole. 2 foot lakers curving their back to focus their lateral line on a hooked minnow they circle is a true wonder to behold. I summer fish a ton, but I've never witnessed fish behaviour that advanced (I assume). Happens daily sitting in a hut looking down at a 3'x3' hole. I keep less fish after this season now.... We catch one or 2 a day when we are out (mostly on bottom), but see these cruisers way more often than that, a few have hit the minnow we keep at 3', instead of the usual and more productive bottom at 55 ft. I mark my gigantic hole when the hut leaves for the season. Litter is my issue with 'fellow sportsmen'. Beer bottles FFS.

Very interesting Are they supposed tohave some sort of sensors on their lateral line?
