I have a Cabela’s ice shelter 6 X 12, it has serious ice anchors.....has anyone here experienced damage to their clam shell due to wind? I’m planning to fish in 45kmh winds, i just wondering how much wind is too much for these tents? I’m just looking for a rough idea to make an informed decision.
Thank you all

If you want to go wind surfing at that wind speed, give it a try. Bring a pair of Freddy Munster boots I would keep it closer to 30km/h if possible. The anchors might stay in the ice, it's whether the material is strong enough to take the pressure.

Hope there's more then one of you putting that thing up, it's a hole other ball game putting these up in a strong wind and at 45 its blowing pretty good.
I hope that 45 is the gusts..

I have only used my hut in 30 Kmh winds once, it was easy to erect ...the key was drilling in an ice anchor prior to putting the hut up. That day I was by myself, each side of my 6x12 clam I opened, I immediately secured with an anchor as I went. I do agree 30 Kmh maybe the max by myself, taking it down in the wind was the challenge.

I have herd stories of folks breaking a clam shell pole in high winds, what can it handle?...I don’t want a wind forecast to stop me fishing unless it’s the clams limit.

Man everything is uncomfortable in that wind. Putting the tent and up and taking it down in strong wind sucks. It’s not a fun walk or ride in that wind either.

Even at 0*c that kind of wind makes it so much colder.

I’d wait for a less windy day

Too big for those winds. I have two smaller Clam units 6x6 usually tie it to atvor skidoo prior to set up. All 4 corners anchored and straps on all 4 hub sides as well anchored to ice 8 in total. If fishing alone ill use my flipover.

I was out on Rosseau once, the winds picked up to 80km an hour with gusts to almost 90! My portable held its ground as I made sure to put extra bungee cords on the wind side hub.I was a bit nervous I must say and it was not long before the winds subsided, fortunately!.The hut is the outbound Crystal great pop up if by yourself.

I appreciate the replays, I have decided to go fishing in the wind. I will report back after the Super Bowl. I look forward to the adventure.

I fished Parry Sound Saturday/Sunday going 2 for 4 losing pike in the hole. Ice was 12 inches black with 12 inches of white ice. There was 3 feet of snow on the lake, as soon as the holes were drilled I had two inches of water on top of the ice surface. The fishing was slow, with a considerable amount of work to get setup in the deep snow. There was several moments I questioned if I had the leg strength to keep pushing forward with the setup. The significant amount of snow made the hut super secure and warm, 40 Kmh winds was not a problem for my 6 x 12 cabellas hut. I had my favourite ice fishing breakfast on the ice....Venison sausage, hash browns, bacon and eggs....with Caesars to chase it down. The setup took 3 hours in the deep snow, was exhausting, ate like a king, for 23 hours.... not once thought or talked about COVID. I walked away super relaxed in great mental spirits, The effort was worth it. Pictures to follow

My old 6x6 held up to 100k gust at pb few years back. The zippers were strained and one strap pulled loose but everything held up.

Pretty cool, good job on getting out and catching some breakfast. Usually when it's really windy I just pack snow on the skirt of my hut. I don't even anchor all 4 sides down but always anchor the side that the wind is blowing on.
