I’ve tried to get a pic of this Barred Owl since October. After about 10 outings with 3 sightings ( no photos) I finally connected. Very nice to see on a bright cold day.

Gorgeous photos!
Great depth of field on the barred. We love to "owl prowl" at night, driving down concession roads, shuttin' off the engine and calling. Great fun . . .
We were daytime canoe fishing one time on a deep--in-the-backwoods fishing hole and I responded to a nesting female. I called in not one, but TWO of her soldiers. Pretty exciting when they responded, and gradually flew in to the edge of the pond. That's when I stopped. They're very territorial over their nesting female, lol. They'd crush your skull in an instant if threatened. You wouldn't even hear them coming from behind. I remember a few years ago, in late January, a woman in my town was attacked by a great horned while putting out her recycle bins at night. An acquaintance of mine ran to her rescue. Owl breeding season. Thing flew out of nowhere and mangled her head pretty good in a few seconds. Lucky for her he happened to be outside and beat it off her. Lacerations galore to her scalp. Fascinating creatures. This Nature of Things episode might interest some of you owl people, lol:

Both great shots but the first is really clear and focused. Chevy did you have the tripod or free hand the pics.. My wife also is getting good at picture taking and she's always said, out of every twenty shots you might get one great one.. You can really tell a great shot when you start to zoom in and out remains clear.... Keep out up Chevy it's a pretty risk free hobby ...

Both shots were free hand. I probably took about 80 shots of the Barred and 20-30 of the screech. With the Barred moving location it’s a challenge changing your settings on the fly. Thanks for the kind words everyone. Cheers Kerry

2nd owl is still a good shot.. It's my wife getting me to be so picky with her shots ,wanting me to critique all her shots....lol.. I swear she'll take 50 shots that I look the same and then asks me what one I like the best lol
