snowmobile to simpsons bay, slush and ice on the lake

Can anyone advise us on travelling from fish bay to simpson bay on the south shore. We are new to lake travel and unsure of ice and slush conditions. Any comments are appreciated.

As luck would have it I did that stretch yesterday. Got on at Fish bay went right past Simpsons to Meadow. Fished for a few hours than headed to the Manitou islands than back to Fish Bay.

Snow was 10 to 18 inches and varied from hardback to soft powder. Periodic slush pockets but if you keep it a decent speed it's fine. If you are pulling gear you will use a lot of fuel due to snow depth and slush. Make sure your tanks are full before heading out. Pulling a 200+ lb toboggan I burned 2.5x the fuel compared to trail riding.

Ice was 17 inches at Meadow and 14 inches at the Manitous.

Sounds like a good day...But did you get any fish?

Meadow Bay?! That's where my family's place is, on that island in Meadow Bay. We're from the states, so we've been missing it bad! I'd love to hear more about your ice fishing success out there. Every year I say "this is the year that I try to make a hard water trip happen"...

I hit the ice there several times each season. Will post some pics for you tonight. One of my favorite. Nice quiet and sheltered. If I ever buy on Nipissing it will be in that area.

Hey Rob if you are serious about a hard water trip let me know. Once we are past this COVID nonsense I could help out. I have 2 sleds with large cargo toboggans set up for lake travel in deep snow, glare ice or slush.

Maybe we could set up a trade of sorts where I take care of logistics at this end and than come down to Texas for a hog/exotics hunt. I did a similar hunt in Texas in the Hill country a few years back and had a great time.

That's a heck of an offer! I might take you up on it next year. I don't own any land down here for a hunt, but I can make some connections and I work for the fish and game agency, so I know my way through the public hunting lands process. I am a bow hunter with the necessary equipment and have a .30-30 rifle also. All is feasibly available to borrow. I'm in Austin, so it's 40 minutes out to the hill country, but we have a spare bedroom for the right person.
