I have tried marker also and does fade. I will try burning it in the wood. Great idea.

I used hanger bolts, lock washers and wing nuts.

Very sturdy and quick assembly/breakdown… but those latches are nifty!

What do people use to attach the skis to the wood block/risers? I use carriage bolts as recommended by someone so that the rounded, protruding heads of the carriage bolts could protect the skis if the Smitty had to be dragged on the pavement a bit. However, the protruding heads of the carriage only provide some protection for the skis since my skis (downhill) has a bend/flex in them and so where I have the bolts, it doesn't completely protect the skis (like nearer the tip and end of the skis). Also, I find, the heads of the bolts do scratch and cut into the ice (if no snow) and add some drag to the Smitty. Do people use flat headed bolts and make them flush or a bit sunken into the skis to prevent the extra drag? Or am I just being a wimp and complaining about a little extra drag? It's actually a lot more drag IF I am pulling a heavy load and sometimes, my wife wants a ride back in!

I used 3" deck screws to attach the blocks to skis. Just countersink the holes first. On mine the bolt only goes through the wooden riser

I just used Ikea box of screws, I believe they are 3-4 inch wood screws. I put 4 screws in each block. It held like a charm over the last 3 outings so far.

You could probably lighten those up with 1x2s instead of 2x4s. Coat them in urethane and you'll be good to go.

for the Xbeams? Don't think so. Not much wt compared to auger, FF, and---in my case---lunch!

I was three wood screws and it's been through major pack ice and three seasons, still good. I had 2-3 coats of primer on my wood first. Also, drilled holes in the end of skiis for ropes, pulls much better but I also pull from tie downs at side of front blocks but find the ropes get stuck under the skiis if not aligned before walking bit of a pain. I use longer ropes with old weed Wacker straps.

I just use carriage bolts thru the X beams and into the risers. No nuts to attach or undo.
