Was there Sat. Still about 6 in clear and 4 in white at Foots Bay. Did well limited my catch. I think we have 1-2 weeks left if temps hold good for the evenings. Late season bite is on

I was tip toeing my way out on a different lake today watching for bad spots and now I see this! Not a single atv or sled out here but why not try an suv! Good thing there’s more than one spot to get off the ice.

I got out today, what a beauty day. Ice was solid but she was she ever singing in the morning. Was on a good 8 inches of black and a few white. 3 fish right off the start and then went a little slow for a while, a few here and there. We moved outside and Spread out. At 4 the bite turned right on and it was one after another, they were smashing everything. Took a couple nice eaters for the pan. Tight lines all!

We managed to get out in the morning. The shore was solid and ice was about 8 inches. Caught 6 or 7, nothing bigger than 14-15in. The bite died off at around 11. We packed up at 12. It was a beautiful day.

I was planning on heading up that way on Saturday with the skidoo and flip hut. Just wondering if anyone has any updates on the conditions. Thanks Redbeard

Lakes are pretty well snow free. Ice is holding, I was on Rosseau yesterday and had about 10-11” total for ice 8 or so black. Top was getting soft and it was only +2-3 with the sun. Fishing was decent, lots of ling to be had throughout the day. I wouldn’t be running a sled unless it’s a fan and has scratchers but to each their own. Shorelines are ok, bubblers may inhibit some access as usual.

Made it out today but walked instead of bringing the sled. Still 6-8” of black ice under 2” of slushy garbage. The black was starting to get punky by 1 pm and I don’t think it’s going to be good muck longer with the temps were are suppose to be getting. Ice cubes and fine slush was coming from the auger in the last few holes I drilled. So that’s usually a good indication for me that she’s almost over. I had an experience 5 years ago that made me aware on how fast the ice can change late season from the morning to afternoon. There was 10” of ice and all of it was black. In the morning it was cold and hard. By noon when I started to make my way in it had turned super punky and I could put my foot through the top 8” of it. For some reason the skidoo trail the ran past the area was the only area with white ice on top and it was more solid than the black. I learned my lesson from that trip and was glad to get off. To those that venture out be safe. Redbeard

I’ll put it this way, I’ve ice fished Joe as late as April 20th and that was on snowmobile. Today I was going to head to a spot on foot further north east and it would probably have been fine, but I swapped my snow tires in a t-shirt instead! If we get some rain to wash the salt away I’ll have the boat out next weekend instead!
