Good morning everyone. Booked a cottage across Bala Cove Marina on the small Peninsula. Taking the skidoo to do some riding and ice fishing with the family. Do any members know the area well on where to go and be on save ice.

Walleye season closes on March 15. Only lake trout and pike open after that. Not sure how good ice fishing is in that area. Not many people ice fish around there. Depending how warm march is there is lots of current areas around bala with the islands and muskoka draining into moon river. They start to really lower the lakes in march.

Hopefully weather cooperates. Well be there on the 14-22. 1-2 Days for eyes fishing is better than none. Hope the snow sticks around can always hit some trails for other spots. All the info helps. Thanks

I'm not familiar with the ice conditions there, however I do agree there would be quite a current and questionable conditions. You're not far from the falls/dam where moon river starts. That bay is the drainage for a massive area...from headwaters in Algonquin park, downstream through most of Muskoka, including Joe, Rosseau, Lake of Bays, Vernon, Mary, Fairy, Pen, Lake Muskoka. All that water goes through Bala bay.

I know the cottage you've rented, the east side of peninsula never froze last year, strong current area. If the bubbler is on in boathouse you may not gave access to lake unless through another property. New owners so may not run bubbler hopefully. Nice big place for ya... Should see the before pics before renovation, huge improvement. Lots of water close, may have to trailer to be safe. I can always give you a heads up a few before arrival.

Lock down happened for March Break. So we were able to have date rescheduled in two weeks better coming. No ice but plan to take atvs to explore the areas. Will do fishing with the kids from shores I guess.
