Was out pounding the sand for Whitefish and my buddy hooked into a beast of a laker. I kept telling him to tighten his drag, “your drag must be too loose!”..... a minute into the fight it ran about 200ft in one go and nearly spooled him.... good thing we didn’t tighten the drag too much lol. Would have been disaster with that 6lb litre. Was a good 10 min fight. Nearly took out the anchor rope, it took a good 720 degrees swim around the boat throughout the fight..... but finally landed in my net, hook popped out, but managed to tip him into the boat.... the net is far too small lol. Look at the shoulders on that beast.

Congrats to my buddy for his PB laker. He earned it on that little Berkeley lightning rod. I managed 12 whitefish and small laker, he was holding out for quality lol. It’s a small lake and that’s an old fish, promptly returned and it swam away like a freight train as if nothing happened.... Maybe I’ll find it this winter if I’m lucky haha.

Don’t worry the gills were untouched, were very careful to ensure we were holding just the gill plate, needed to ensure it went back unharmed.
